In March of 2007 I was invited to attend a Las Vegas style comedy/magic show by the producer Jon Petz and his wife Stacey. Miracles and Magic is a fundraiser for the charity Adventures for Wish Kids now known as A Kid Again.
The show was being held at the Rife Center in downtown Columbus and upon arrival I noticed the photographs displayed around the area. Large 20x24 images of Jon and a little girl (I hate to say this) was so pixelated that it was hard to recognize the person I knew.
My wife and I watched one of the best magic shows I have ever seen. The magicians were not only doing magic but were making the entire crowd laugh hysterically.
At the end of the show Jon brought a little girl on stage to help him with a magical moment known as "Snow". Jon had the girl sit in a chair as he took water and white paper mixing them together in his hand.
Jon began to rub his hands together and snow began to blow out from his hands. Snow began to fall from the stage and soon the entire theater was filled with falling snow.
To see children's smiling faces and the parents wiping the tears from their eyes in itself made me think "I have to do something for this charity."
For 3 years I have dedicated my photography skills to this cause. Capturing all of their adventures and fundraisers to keep a history of the events plus allow them to use the images in advertising and promotions.
I must say that this has been one of the most rewarding times in my photographic career.
A Kid Again help children with a life threatening illness and their families to be a kid again. Providing fun filled adventures, by giving them a day of normalcy without the thought of medical treatments.
The families are treated with adventures to Kings Island, Columbus Zoo, Clippers baseball game, The Crew soccer game and Magic Mountain just to name a few.
A Kid Again has 4 chapters in Ohio, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Cincinnati. Today A Kid Again serves 1,380 children.
